Canyoning (canyoneering in the United States) involves travelling through a river canyon using a variety of techniques. That may include walking, scrambling, climbing, jumping, abseiling, and swimming. Sounds fun doesn’t it?
If you’ve had a go at gorge walking in the past you’ll have a pretty good idea of what the terrain may be like. However, waterfalls and big drops are thrown into the canyoning mix, where ropes are used to abseil down. Often, that abseil is down the face of a waterfall, meaning that you have water tumbling down around you (and on you), taking the excitement levels up, up, up as you go down, down, down!
